Junkdepot has been online now for a few months and we have received thousands of listings from our users. As great as this is it only takes a few unethical users to create a unsafe shopping environment. We work hard to monitor and ban unethical sellers and have integrated sites like Rapleaf so buyers and sellers can create trustworthy reputations.

We have also made it clear to buyers that they should never deal with sellers outside their country and never never wire money to someone you don’t know.

The real problem is unethical users are attracted to free and easy to use services like junkdepot, since they can post authentic looking lisings and lure in perspective buyers with little or no effort and traceability.

In order to address this problem and make Junkdepot as safe as possible we have decided to require sellers begin purchasing “Listing Credits”, 5 for $0.99 through Google Checkout. Our current users will receive 5 listings for free.

With this in place we can effectively scare away scammers since we will have access to their actual name and address.
